แนวทางการจัดทำรายงานสถิติ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ผู้จัดทำรายงานผลการสำมะโน สำรวจตัวอย่าง รายงานเชิงวิเคราะห์ และรายงานอื่น ๆ ใช้เป็นแนวทางในการกำหนดองค์ประกอบของเนื้อหาและรายละเอียดของเอกสารรายงานให้มีความครบถ้วนสำหรับผู้อ่าน ประกอบกับเพื่อให้มีรูปแบบและวิธีการนำเสนอที่ถูกต้อง เป็นมาตรฐานเดียวกันโดยสามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ได้ตามความเหมาะสมเพื่อให้มีความทันสมัย สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของผู้ใช้ และสามารถนำไปใช้งานได้อย่างถูกต้องตามมาตรฐานที่กำหนด
