อัตราส่วนของประชากรที่อยู่ในกลุ่มอายุนอกวัยแรงงานต่อประชากรในวัยแรงงาน โดยมีข้อสมมุติว่าประชากรในกลุ่มอายุนอกวัยแรงงานที่ต้องพึ่งพิงทางเศรษฐกิจ ได้แก่ กลุ่มประชากรสูงอายุ (อายุ 60 หรือ 65 ปีขึ้นไป) ส่วนประชากรที่เป็นที่พึ่งพิงทางเศรษฐกิจของประชากรกลุ่มอื่น คือ ประชากรวัยแรงงาน (อายุ 15-59 หรือ 15-64 ปี)
