ผู้ป่วยนอก (OPD) ย่อมาจาก Out-Patient-Department หมายถึงผู้ป่วยที่เข้าไปรับการรักษาตัวในโรงพยาบาล แต่ไม่มีความจำเป็นที่จะต้องนอนพักที่โรงพยาบาล สามารถกลับไปพักรักษาตัวต่อที่บ้านได้ โดยส่วนมากอาการป่วยของผู้ป่วยนอกจะไม่รุนแรงมากนัก อย่างอาการไข้หวัด แพ้อากาศ ไอ หรือหัวแตก เย็บแผลไม่กี่เข็ม แพทย์ลงความเห็นว่ากลับไปรักษาตัวที่บ้านได้ ก็นับเป็นผู้ป่วยนอกทั้งหมด
